This paper begins to develop a definition of self-organisation in socio-spatial terms by using 3 cultural examples that exist without the presence of a professional architect or artist.  The subsequent stage of the report will begin to analyse a specific case study of self-organisation in which architects, artists, local residents, sociologists and others play different roles.
